Ray Roberts....who knew???

I'd been on RR twice before, the day it opened, which if I recall correctly was January 1st and it was really cold. And then I took some friends over for some sand bass fishing a couple summers ago. Now that some larger tournaments are showing regularly I decided Sunday to go look it over...

wow was I surprised. First I know zebra muscles are a pain and cause lots of problems, but the water is so clear, its actually beautiful. And if you are going to learn a lake being down 7 feet + is a great time. I got lots of boat lanes marked as trails, and above and beyond I caught  a bunch of fish. Mostly small keepers flipping a Senko (check out the link, they are now available in bulk) around shallow wood, but I also had one really crazy incident. I was fishing a 6th Sense SquareBill (check out the paint job on the threadfin) up a tree line and the water came super shallow, maybe 2 feet deep (I could easily see the bottom). I look ahead and see two pretty large carp cruising the shallows as they often do and just out of habit pitched the SB to them. To my surprise it was a mis-identification on my part, the larger fish turned on my SB and ate it, it was a large mouth between 5-6 lbs and her 4 lb buddy came by the boat with her trying to take the SB out of her mouth. I'm excited, its 44 miles from my drive way to the ramp...I suspect I will have lots more RR updates over the coming weeks and months.
