Grand Lake last Okie BFL

Posted by ken on September 8, 2014

I got to spend a long weekend on Grand this past weekend looking for fish for the final BFL there this next weekend. Friday was spotty, probably had 3-6 keeper bites, spent most of the deep and felt like I was starting to put pieces of the puzzle together. Saturday dawned rainy and windy on the front end of a low pressure and the fish bit, shallow, really, really shallow. Had a solid day, felt like I could have pieced 12-14 lb limit together on a variety of baits and was feeling pretty good about things. Sunday reminded me of my favorite Mike Tyson quote, "Everybody has a plan until they get hit in the head"....Fished daylight until 1:30 without a keeper bite, went shallow, went back deep, went everywhere in between....I am concerned, get one more practice day Friday, hopefully a light bulb will go off and I can get a workable plan together.

New Article up on Inside Line Magazine

My most recent article The Frustration or Familiarity was published online on Gary Yamamoto Custom Bait's Inside Line Magazine late last week. If you don't subscribe it is free and Pete Ponds has a really good blog that I greatly enjoy, has some great insight into the trails and the goings on in the fishing world.

Congratulations to Clayton Boulware on an impressive year winning the Anglers Quest individual series points race and then capping it off with winning the two day championship on Rayburn this past weekend. Great back to back stringers on a weekend where I struggled to catch any fish....much less keepers! McCall is out, you are now my hero!!!

Continuing to learn Ray Roberts

Posted by ken on August 10, 2014

If my website never leads to anything other than connecting with old friends it's 100% worth it! Had a friend I've know over 20 years but had lost contact with Brad McNulty reconnect through the website and since we still both love Marty Robbins music and bass fishing we spent Sunday on Ray Bob. Catching up was great fun, catching fish, unfortunately was another matter altogether. We spent most of the day up the creeks on the north east end of the lake. Water continues to get clearer each time I go up. We probably spent way too much time up shallow, and by shallow I mean <12 feet fishing wood and grass and really only caught a couple of small fish. Late in the day we did a little boat riding down around the dam and we idled over some fish on a main lake point. I originally tried to reach them with a Strike King 6XD but only drew water. First cast with a 6th Sense 500 DD, in the, and I love saying this...Sexified Shad, drew something much bigger and much stronger than water. Let's just say we have a new waypoint on the main lake at RR
